Movie Night: Update

UPDATE:  The screen and projector are FANTASTIC!  The BluRay and Speakers that I originally purchased are going to back. So my complete set up is now:::

These speakers pack a serious PUNCH! The sound is crisp and loud. I am considering adding more speakers for a more “surround experience” or for events with a large group.
Acoustic Research Main Street Portable Wireless Outdoor Speaker (AWS6)

This is my own Blu-Ray from my bedroom that I keep “borrowing” because the Sony BluRay that I purchased for this set up, doesn’t have the needed audio connection to work with the original speakers OR the new speakers.

I will post photos and details of this set up.

ORIGINAL POST (03/11/2014)

So I am looking at purchasing a projector and screen for the scouts so we can have movie nights and also because it seems every training event we have needs some kind of visual on a large scale.

Does anyone have tips of this stuff?  Here are the projector and screen that I’m looking at purchasing.

Epson Duet 80-Inch Dual Aspect Ratio Projection Screen, Portable 4:3 and 16:9 Aspect Ratio Screen (ELPSC80)

Mila’s Technicolor Dream Blanket

Mila and I were at the craft store, I was shopping for yarn (what else!?) and Mila picked up this crazy rainbow yarn. I really didn’t like the bright colors and incredibly short color pattern. But it kept her quiet in the cart for a long time… Then when it came to check out time, i realized she had unraveled a lot of yarn and made a tangled mess….. She seemed to really like the colors, so i put the label up for check out with my other items and took it home.

I stared at this ridiculous tangled rainbow mess. What the hell am I gonna make with this ugly yarn?  Sweater? NO WAY! Toy? Maybe… Then my knitting teacher Staci posted this video. A blanket! A simple, spiraling, square blanket! Only 10 stitches on the needles at any time, nice mitered corners.

2014 Summer Movies for the Kiddos

Summer time means always having a boredom buster up your sleeve. Luckily most of the theaters in this area offer FREE or CHEAP movies for kids all summer long.  So I have put them all into one easy calendar.

I’m a bit behind linking all the titles to Common Sense Media reviews. I will update them a week in advance.
Each show time is posted after the title. Click the Title for full details for each movie. Let me know if you want me to add another theater. quickshotoflife (at) gmail.com
Oh! I also added a few extra things going on around town, like live music, and events at the library.

**** NOTE ****

Alamo Drafthouse Kids Camp Movies are “FREE” with a REQUIRED $5 purchase per person.

The $5 is paid upfront and then credited toward food and beverages.

Kids drinks are $1 with refills and a reusable cup with lid.

Good News and Bad news: My favorite book……

When I was in elementary school, I read a book that really touched my heart, it opened my eyes to other peoples hidden pain. The author came to visit our school and I cried with him.

I’ve shared it with many friends and teachers over the years, eventually losing my signed copy. Last night, I was looking for it in our library’s catalog, they don’t have it. This lead me to searching Google and Amazon.  I found 2 things that gave me Good News and Bad News.

The author, Jennings Michael Burch, passed away January 15, 2013 at the age of 71. This book details his incredibly sad childhood. His single mother placed him in foster care when he was 8 years old. Between 1949 and 1954, he bounced through 32 foster homes and orphanages, suffered abuse and lost a brother.

They Cage The Animals at Night is being made into a movie. Well, it was going to be made.  It appears the finding campaign ended, in February, not even close to the funding goal. Now I’m back to being sad. Maybe they will try again.

I am planning to read this book with my oldest. A “Me and Mom Book Club” sort of. If anyone would like to join us, here is a link to the paperback and to the digital copies. Comment below if you would like to meet up at the library for a book chat.

Finally Took the Plunge!

SOOOOOOOO After having an official Etsy shop since March 17, 2008……. I FINALLY have items listed and ready for sale. I kept holding back and waiting for better descriptions, more interesting items, better items, more inventory, more time, better camera……. WTF Ever!!!!! I will never sell anything on Etsy if I don’t list items on Etsy.

I kept looking for a guaranteed, no fail success formula. No more. I fooled around with ShopLocket because it was lower cost than Etsy but I don’t think my items were being seen. It didn’t cost me anything to try it, but it just didn’t get my any sales.

I used to sell stuff on eBay, it worked but was hit or miss with what people were looking for, listings were short and not too costly. So there it is…… I have moved 2 items to my Etsy shop and will add more later this afternoon.
